Jennifer Tilly was conceived in Los Angeles on 16 September 1958 under very poor conditions. Her father was a vehicle salesman and her mother was a school teacher. Jennifer is the third of four kids in her family often accompanied her mother for her performances at the theater, and was very impressed with her. Jennifer's mother and father divorced at the age of five. Jennifer was a part of her youth in British Columbia, after her mother relocated there with their four kids. Jennifer was not able to get a good education, despite being an extremely artistic child. Due to her experiences at Canada's public schools Jennifer came under the sway of a lot of bullying. As her love for theatre diminished, she started acting in plays in support of her mother. Her mother inspired all of her kids to develop an appreciation for the arts. She immediately took the initiative.
